BONUS FEATURES
Journey's End Resort takes pride in being home to one of
Belize's only PADI
5-Star Gold Palm facilities. We are sophisticated enough for the most
advanced diver yet understanding and patient with beginners. We are lucky to be
situated right on top of one of the greatest dive spots in the world. It is only
about a ¼ mile out to the second largest barrier reef in the world. And
because Journey's End is located north of San Pedro, we have the advantage of
diving most of the less-visited sites. You'll rarely see another dive boat in
the area and most sites are only a few minutes from the dock. The northern dive
sites typically provide a lot of spur and groove topography with some great
marine life.
If you've ever thought about diving but never taken the plunge, no problem! You
can get a free scuba tryout at our dive shop. Come see for yourself why so many
of our guests keep coming back year after year, anxious to explore different
sites along the world's second largest barrier reef!
Journey's End Resort is the premier fishing resort on
Ambergris Caye. Nestled between the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean and
the pristine mangroves, Journey's End Resort offers packages for both the angler
and non-angler. We host numerous fly-fishing enthusiasts, many of whom go for
the "Grand Slam" of fly-fishing which is to catch a Permit, Bonefish
and Tarpon, all on one trip.
Fly Fishing
Fly
gear can vary according to conditions. On a calm day a #6 outfit is great. With
stronger winds, use a #8 or #10. Reels should hold 200 yards of 20 lb. test.
Dacron backing plus floating fly line. Fly lines should be neutral colored.
Leaders should be at least 9' long. Tippets are typically 8-10 lb. test, and
should be clear. Flies should be unweighted and tied predominantly on a #6 hook.
Best colors are orange or patterns in white, brown and pink.
Journey's End Resort has a limited supply of excellent fly fishing gear
available for rent. We also offer effective flat flies for sale.
Reef Fishing
Stiff casting or spinning rods coupled with reels holding 17-20 lb. test (200
yards). White jigs are the mainstay, tipped with plastic worms. Sizes vary with
depth - ¾ oz. To 2 oz. will cover the ranges required. An assortment of top water
and deepwater lures will also work, depending on the species sought.
If reef fishing is more your style, we've got that too. Spend a half or full day
on the reef. Fishing outside the reef will be in deep water and will usually get
you into several species. Typical would be grouper, amberjack, Wahoo, kingfish,
pompano and occasionally a sailfish or marlin. Generally, the fish outside the
reef are larger, and if size is your objective, the option is yours, weather
permitting. Fishing inside the reef usually produces barracuda, snapper, grouper
and Spanish mackerel.
Finally,
if you'd like to go for the really big game fish then spend a day or two further
out on the water and do some deep sea fishing. Marlin, dolphin fish, and an
assortment of other species await your lure.
Fishing off Ambergris Caye, in whatever form is outstanding. The important thing
to remember is the quality of the fishing guide that you select. Journey's End
Resort uses only the finest local guides that are completely familiar with the
waters and fish in the area. If you're looking make your fishing plans.
If your idea of relaxation is to simply lounge around the
resort and enjoy the grounds, we suggest a dip in our beautiful fresh water
swimming pool. Perfect for adults and kids, complete with a shallow wading area
to sunbathe.
At Journey's End Resort you can find a tour or activity for almost everyone.
Choose to either snorkel the largest reef in the Western Hemisphere or travel
deep into the rain forest to explore ancient Mayan ruins. Visit out Tour and
Activity Office at Journey's End where our staff will be more than happy to
provide you with all the information you'll need. They'll even book your tour
and arrange to have you depart right from our docks.
